How is this collar different from other collars?

Kato Collar not only protects the neck but goes beyond what other collars can do by reducing forces acting on the brain.

Does the collar fit in any shoulder pads?

Yes. We have two sizes of Kato Collars, medium and large. We have not tested the collar on every shoulder pad. However, the design is vendor agnostic adult shoulder pads and most larger youth pads.

How do I know to order the right size?

Our Large Kato Collar fits all Large through XXX-Large adult shoulder pads. The Medium collar fits all Small and Medium adult pads and has been worn by some youth in X-Large and XX-Large youth shoulder pads.PLEASE NOTE:Some of the newer adult pads with the larger neck opening may have to have the collar adjusted forward to receive the helmet.

Does the Collar impair active range of motion?

No. Vision, speed, and mobility are not impaired by wearing the collar. The collar enables full range of motion. In fact, players who wore the collar were more confident on the field, and second-guessed hits and plays less because they didn’t feel constricted.

Will this product eliminate concussions?

We approach concussion prevention through protective equipment, training, and innovation. As you well know, helmets have shown that they cannot prevent all concussions. And the
can only protect the brain upon a direct impact to the helmet, and only during the time of that impact.

Impact duration on direct contact is an average of 5.5 to 13.3 milliseconds. Kato
Collar is a new innovation in head health technology which goes beyond the helmet to
protect the brain against forces elicited to the brain after direct impacts, and also indirect impacts to the body which cause the head to move violently.

How does the collar decelerate the helmet?

Whenever a direct or indirect impact occurs causing the head/helmet to move violently, the collar receives the head/helmet and with its pads decelerate that motion, not allowing the head,/helmet to reach maximal speed from the whip after impact. And therefore, also reduces the speed of its return after the whip.

Does the Collar prevent burners and stingers as well?

Yes. The collar helps prevent the stretching and compression of nerves and muscles in the neck and shoulder through deceleration of the head and reducing the distance the head travels during engagement. Players who wore the collar after suffering from burners and stingers in the past immediately experienced less of them and they eventually disappeared altogether.

Are there different-sized pads?

Yes. Decelerator pads are ½” and 1” thick. We send 3 sizes of each pad with every collar to allow each player to adjust the pad size and placement for their best protection, comfort and player preference. . There should be clearance between the helmet and the pads to allow for active range of motion (AROM) until engagement. Please ask us about the availability of these sizes.
